This Employee Handbook – Field applies to all employees of Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. It is intended to provide guidelines and summary information about the company’s personnel policies, procedures, benefits, and rules of conduct. It is important that you read, understand, and become familiar with this Employee Handbook and comply with the standards that have been established. Please talk with your immediate supervisor if you have any questions or need dditional information. The rules set out in this Employee Handbook are as complete as we can reasonably make them. However, they are not necessarily all inclusive because circumstances that we had not anticipated may arise. Some currently unanticipated circumstances may warrant the appl ication of discipline, including termination. In addition, Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. reserves the right to modify, supplement, rescind, or revise any policy, benefit, or provision from time to time, with or without notice, as it deems necessary or appropriate. It will help you to understand your responsibilities to Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. and the Company’s responsibilities to you. This Employee Handbook is not intended to, and should not be interpreted as, creating a contract of employment. While Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. elieves that one of the best ways t o develop an employee’s trust and confidence in the Company is to perform in a consistent manner, it is important to realize that changes to our daily practices may occasionally be necessary. Therefore, Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. reserves the right to change, modify, delete, or add to any of the policies and practices listed herein, in accordance with management’s best judgment. We require that you read all of this Employee Handbook carefully. You are also encouraged to take it home to your family so that they can also become familiar with it.You should refer to this manual first when you have any questions. If you still are not certain, please contact your immediate supervisor. NOTICE The policies in this Employee Handbook are to be considered as guidelines. Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc, at its sole option, may change, delete, suspend, and discontinue any part of its policies in this Handbook with or without any prior notice. Any such action shall apply to existing, as well as future, employees, with continued employment being the consideration between the employer and the employee.No one other than the President of Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. may alter or modify any of the policies in this Employee Handbook. No statement or promise by a supervisor, manager, or department head may be interpreted as a change in policy, nor will it constitute an agreement with an employee. Should any provision in this Employee Handbook be found to be unenforceable and/or invalid, such finding does not invalidate the entire Employee Handbook, but only the subject provision. DEFINITIONS This Employee Handbook deals only with Field personnel.Field personnel include those employees whose work is performed principally in the Field. This includes the following: †¢ County Supervisors †¢ Tractor Operators or Crew Members †¢ Lawn Care Crew Members †¢ Weed Whacker Crew Members This Employee Handbook also covers Field personnel who are brought to the Main Office or the Shop on an as needed or temporary basis . EXCEPTIONS In some cases exceptions can be made to policies listed in this Employee Manual. In most cases exceptions will not be allowed. Only the President can make exceptions to stated Company policies.Exceptions are NOT automatically granted, and very few will be granted. If you request an exception, it is your responsibility to provide justification for the President to grant an exception. SECTION I: EMPLOYMENT ORGANIZATION CHART Martino Landscape Contractors has a formal, functional organization chart. This organization chart demonstrates the â€Å"chain of command† at Martino Landscape Contractors. It is your obligation to know and follow this â€Å"chain of command. † According to this chart, you have only one boss. Your boss is the individual who provides you with all work-related instructions.You should ask this individual, and this individual only, about all work related questions . If, after the conclusion of this discussion, you are not satisfied, let your immediate supervisor know that you would like to discuss this matter with their immediate supervisor. That individual will set the time for such a meeting after discussion with their immediate supervisor (See the Section on â€Å"Open Door Policy. †). You may discuss personal matters with the President, or any member of management, at your mutual convenience without first discussing these types of issues with your immediate supervisor.EMPLOYMENT-AT-WILL Employment is with the mutual consent of you and Martino Landscape Contractors. Consequently, Martino Landscape Contractors have the right to terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or advance notice. This employment-at-will relationship will remain in effect throughout your employment with Martino Landscape Contractors, unless it is specifically modified by an express written agreement signed by the President of Mar tino Landscape Contractors. All Field employees will have an Introductory Period of a minimum of 60 days.After the successful completion of this period, they may become considered as permanent employees. This employment-at-will relationship may not be modified by any oral or implied agreement. This Employee Handbook does not constitute an employee contract. TARDINESS AND ABSENCE You are part of a team. In most circumstances, the progress and productivity of the job depends on each of its team members acting together. Therefore, it is important that employees work their assigned schedules as consistently as possible.However, Martino Landscape Contractors understands that because of illness or emergency situations you may be unable to come to work. If you are unable to report to work for any reason, you must call in to your immediate supervisor before your scheduled time of arrival with the following information: †¢ If you will be late, you must state why and when you expect to b e in. †¢ If you will be absent, you must state why and how long you expect to be out. If your immediate supervisor has a cell phone, you must call that individual directly.It is your responsibility to keep the Company informed on a daily basis during a short-term absence. Except in the case of an emergency, employees must have their supervisor's permission to leave work before they are regularly scheduled to do so. Being late (tardy) or absent is considered â€Å"excused† only when you call promptly and the tardy or absence is for a compelling reason. The Company reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to determine what constitutes a compelling reason. A tardy or absence for a non-compelling reason, and failing to call in according to company policy, will be considered â€Å"unexcused. Furthermore, the Company recognizes that certain emergency situations would prevent you from giving advance notice. The Company will apply â€Å"the rule of reason† to all such situations Martino Landscape Contractors considers â€Å"unexcused† tardiness and absence to be a serious problem. Consequently, employees who are tardy or absent excessively or show a consistent pattern of absence, whether â€Å"excused† or â€Å"unexcused,† may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination.If you are late for work, or you are absent without an acceptable excuse, more than three (3) times within a year’s period (based on the date of the first occurrence), you will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination. If you do not call in and do not report to work for three (3) consecutive workdays, the Company will consider this to be a voluntarily resignation. WORK RULES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS It is not possible to provide a complete listing of every work rule or performance standard.As a result, the following are presented only as examples. You are responsible for understandin g and following these standards and work rules. Employees who do not comply may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination. Job Performance – employees may be disciplined, up to and including, possible termination, for poor job performance, as determined by Martino Landscape Contractors. Some examples of poor job performance are as follows: †¢ Below average or what the Company defines as acceptable level of work quality or quantity; Failure to follow safety requirements and regulations, including the utilization of required safety equipment, clothing, gear, etc. ; †¢ Failure to attain established goals; †¢ Poor attitude, including rudeness, or lack of cooperation – this includes dealings with representatives of customers, vendors, co-workers, representatives of local, State or federal governments, etc. ; †¢ Excessive absenteeism, tardiness, or abuse of meal or break time privileges; †¢ Failure to properly use a nd care for all Company owned or rented equipment and vehicles; Failure to follow instructions or Company policies and procedures; †¢ Failure to perform all job duties, tasks ands responsibilities. Misconduct – employees may also be disciplined, up to and including, possible termination, for misconduct. Some examples of misconduct are as follows: †¢ Insubordination; †¢ â€Å"Badmouthing,† the spreading of rumors, half truths, untruths, etc. of customers, co-workers, vendors, outside professionals, governmental representatives, Martino Landscape Contractors personnel, etc. ; Abuse, misuse, theft, or the unauthorized possession or removal of Company property or the personal property of others; †¢ Falsifying or making a material omission on Company records, reports, or other documents, including payroll, personnel, expense reports, and employment records; †¢ Being rude, disrespectful, using abusive and/or foul language with any client/customer â⠂¬â€œ actual or potential – vendor, co-worker, outside professionals, governmental representatives, competitor of the Company, etc. ; †¢ Divulging confidential Company information to unauthorized persons; Disorderly conduct on Company property – including fighting or attempted bodily injury, or the use of profane, abusive, or threatening language toward others, or possession of a weapon; †¢ Misconduct in company furnished motel rooms; †¢ Violation of any law adversely affecting Martino Landscape Contractors, or conviction in court of any crime which may cause the employee to be regarded as unsuitable for continued employment; †¢ Violation of Martino Landscape Contractors alcohol, drugs, and controlled substances policies; †¢ Violation of Martino Landscape Contractors harassment policies; Violation of safety rules, as may be established by Martino Landscape Contractors †¢ Continuous misuse and/or unauthorized use of any company equipment or property. Attitude – Martino Landscape Contractors strives to be a positive company and to create a positive working environment for its employees and clients. We expect that you will at all times and with all employees, customers, co-workers, vendors, representatives of governmental agencies, outside professionals, etc. only make positive remarks about Martino Landscape Contractors.If you have any complaints they should be handled discreetly with your immediate supervisor. USE of COMPANY VEHICLES, PROPERTY, EQUIPMENT, ETC. Some Martino Landscape Contractors Field personnel are assigned Company vehicles. These are intended for conducting official business ONLY. You should NEVER allow anyone other than a current Company employee, with a valid Driver’s License, to operate a Company vehicle. Also, you should not allow anyone to ride in the vehicle that is not a current Company employee. Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and ncluding, termi nation. SECTION II: PERSONNEL STATUS EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATIONS Introductory Period: All personnel hired by Martino Landscape Contractors will start off in a minimum 60-day Introductory Period. While classified in this status you are not eligible for any company benefits, unless required by law. The Introductory Period is a time for the Company to get to know its employees and their capabilities. It is also a time for you to get to know the Company and your job tasks and /or duties. Throughout this period we will be evaluating each other.At any point in time during this Introductory Period, the Company or you may decide to terminate the relationship. At the end of the period, your immediate supervisor will conduct a performance evaluation interview with you and will determine your status with Martino Landscape Contractors. This period may be extended beyond the initial 60-day period discussed above. However, throughout this period you are encouraged to discuss your performance and a sk questions of your immediate supervisor regarding all tasks and duties assigned to you. Part-Time Employees:Employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week. If the position or job function is to be part-time, you will be notified at the time of your hiring. Seasonal Employees: Employees in non-supervisory, field positions. The length of time that any individual will be needed is dependent on the work volume and specific projects that are performed. Temporary Employees: Employees hired on a temporary basis. This may include the hiring of some individuals during the summer months. It may also include using temporary employment agencies to obtain this additional, short term, help that the Company requires.Hourly: These positions have an hourly wage rate. The individuals in these positions are paid for the actual hours they worked during the pay period. However, under federal law these individuals are paid time-and-a-half for all hours worked above 40 hours in a given pay peri od. Employment of Minors: The Company will not knowingly hire any individual who is considered to be under age for employment in any job classification as defined by State and federal laws. Generally speaking, this is 18 years of age to operate equipment and/or vehicles and 16 years of age for other positions. MEAL PERIODSAll hourly employees who work more than six (6) hours in a given workday will receive an unpaid meal period of 30 minutes. In the field, it is up to you to determine the exact time of this break. You should consider your current location and the time it would take to get to a convenient spot for taking your meal break. Consequently, there is no exact time for taking your meal break on a daily basis. 30 minutes per day will be subtracted from your time sheet. Employees who do not work more than six (6) hours in a workday may not take a meal break without the expressed approval of their immediate supervisor.You are expected to be back at work within 30 minutes after you left for the start of your meal period. Leaving early and/or returning late is considered a serious offense and will lead to disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination. SECTION IV: COMPENSATION WAGE and SALARY REVIEWS Wage and Salary increases are based upon performance only. Your length of service with the company has nothing to do with being granted a wage or salary increase. Martino Landscape Contractors considers your pay rate, salary, and/or your total compensation package to be highly confidential information.Under no circumstances should any part of your compensation package be discussed with anyone but your immediate supervisor, the Payroll Clerk, the Office Manager, the Controller, and the President. Violation of this policy is considered to be a very serious matter and may subject you to disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination. WAGE ASSIGNMENTS or GARNISHMENTS On occasion, employees may have Wage Assignments or Garnishments fi led against them. These are legal documents and require that Martino Landscape Contractors deduct a certain amount from your weekly paychecks.The Company will inform you regarding any such Garnishments against your wages as soon as possible after they have been received and processed in the Accounting Department. You will be provided with copies of any documentation that is given to the Company. If you disagree with the Garnishment, then it is your responsibility to handle this matter with the appropriate court and/or institution. The Company has no say whatsoever on these issues. They are strictly legal requirements with which the Company must comply by law. For each assignment or garnishment, the employee will be assessed an Administrative Fee of $3. 0 per transaction. PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS All Field employees will receive a written performance evaluation annually, based on their anniversary dates. They may be provided more frequently. New employees will receive a written perfor mance evaluation at the conclusion of their 60-day Introductory Period. The purpose of the performance evaluation is to let you know how well you are doing. Written performance evaluations may include commendation for good work, as well as specific recommendations for improvement. You will have the opportunity to discuss your performance evaluation with your immediate supervisor.This is a good time to ask questions and to clarify important points. Performance evaluations help Martino Landscape Contractors make important decisions about job placement, training and development, and pay increases. A satisfactory performance evaluation does not guarantee a salary increase nor does it alter, modify, or amend the at-will employment relationship between you and Martino Landscape Contractors JOB DESCRIPTIONS SECTION III: GENERAL INFORMATION INJURIES/ACCIDENTS All injuries while on company time must be reported as soon as possible to your immediate supervisor.PLEASE, ensure that medical atte ntion is sought first in an emergency. Your supervisor will have a listing of emergency telephone numbers. If you witness or are present when an injury occurs, and the situation so calls, please call for help IMMEDIATELY. Your and your co-workers’ health and well-being are of prime importance. In addition, you are expected to immediately report any and all unsafe situations to your immediate supervisor. SEXUAL HARASSMENT Martino Landscape Contractors are committed to providing a work environment that is free of discrimination and harassment.In keeping with this commitment, Martino Landscape Contractors maintains a strict policy prohibiting harassment, including sexual harassment. Sexual harassment of employees by supervisors, co-workers, customers, representatives of governmental agencies, outside professionals, vendors, etc. is prohibited. Individuals who have been determined to have violated this policy will be disciplined, up to and including, possible termination. Martino Landscape Contractors makes the following commitments to all employees: Examples of sexual harassment include, but are not limited to, the following: Un-welcome sexual flirtations, advances, or propositions; †¢Verbal abuse of a sexual nature; †¢Using explicit or derogatory sexual terms in reference to any employee; †¢Subtle pressure or requests for sexual activities; †¢Unnecessary touching of an individual; †¢Graphic comments about an individual's body; †¢A display in the workplace of sexually suggestive objects or pictures, including, but not limited to, magazines, posters, calendars, photographs, and drawings; †¢Sexually explicit or offensive jokes; †¢Physical assault; Retaliating in ANY way against an employee who has complained of, or reported, sexual harassment or who has participated in the investigation of such conduct. If you believe that you are being, or have been, harassed in any way, you MUST report the facts of the incident or in cidents to your supervisor immediately, without fear of reprisal. If for ANY reason you are uncomfortable talking with this person, or this person is the one whom you believe is guilty of sexual harassment, you should immediately talk with the President. Do not wait to see if the behavior stops.To properly protect all of our employees, customers, vendors, business associates, Martino Landscape Contractors must be notified at the first opportunity. Any accusation brought to the attention of supervision and/or management MUST be brought up the chain of command of the organization or directly to President for investigation. It is a condition of employment at Martino Landscape Contractors that if it is deemed necessary to use an outside arbitrator to resolve any sexual harassment disputes, you hereby accept this condition and agree to abide by the judgment and determinations of this arbitrator.ALCOHOL, DRUGS, AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES Martino Landscape Contractors has adopted a policy o n drugs, alcohol, and other prohibited items in order to help insure a safe, healthy, and productive drug-free environment for our employees and others on Company property, to protect Company property and assets, to maintain a favorable public image, and to assure efficient operations.It is the policy of Martino Landscape Contractors to maintain its property and to provide a drug-free working environment that is both safe for our employees, including others having business with the Company, or on Company property, or at work sites where Martino Landscape Contractors is performing work, and conducive to efficient and productive work standards.This policy restricts certain items and substances from being brought to work, being used while working or being present on Company property and/or Company work sites, and prohibits Company employees and all others from, reporting to work, working or being present on Company property and/or Company job sites, whether or not on duty, from having detectable levels or identifiable trace quantities of certain drugs and other substances, and prohibits the unauthorized possession, by employees or others, of property, equipment, materials, supplies, or proprietary information belonging to Martino Landscape Contractors or others. OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES) or CONFLICT of INTEREST Because of the possibility of a conflict of interest, employees are prohibited from holding a position with any competitor, governmental agency, and customer, outside professional entity, or vendor or any business entity working with Martino Landscape Contractors. Therefore, you are required to inform your immediate supervisor if you have any outside employment – with any company or any self-employment venture.Martino Landscape Contractors will be the sole judge as to whether that company or business venture falls into any of these categories. While you are free to have outside employment (a second job), it must not interfere with your ability to perform your duties and responsibilities for Martino Landscape Contractors. in a productive and safe manner. In addition, it must not limit your ability – on a regular basis – to be available for required overtime and/or weekendIn addition, all employees are prohibited from engaging in outside employment, private business, or other activity, which might have an adverse effect on, or create a conflict of interest with, Martino Landscape Contractors and the type of work that the Company performs. DRIVING RECORDS Employees, whose job/position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle, must present and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to our insurer. You will be asked to submit a copy of your driving record to Martino Landscape Contractors from time to time.Any changes in your driving record must be reported immediately. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, up to and including, possible termination. If you are authorized to ope rate a Company vehicle in the course of your assigned work, or if you operate your own vehicle in performing your job, you will be considered completely responsible for any accidents, fines, or traffic violations incurred – other than those imposed on a Company vehicle for being overweight, unsafe, etc.Your immediate supervisor will advise you on what to say and do (and what not to say and do) in the event of a vehicular accident All drivers will be subject to investigation annually by the insurance carrier to verify the status of their driving record and to determine their insurability. Martino Landscape Contractors is not liable for any employee that is turned down for coverage. However, if our insurance carrier will not insure you, then you cannot hold a position that has a requirement for driving a vehicle.ONLY Martino Landscape Contractors employees may operate any vehicle or piece of equipment owned or rented by the Company. PERSONAL LOANS and PAY ADVANCES It is the pol icy of Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. NOT to enter into any type of loans for any employee. Generally, it is the policy of Martino Landscape Contractors, Inc. NOT to provide a pay advance to any employee. However, under emergency conditions, an exception can be made to this policy. If such an exception is granted, the following conditions apply: 1.For salaried personnel, no pay advance can be made for a sum greater than 50% of salaried employee’s regular or base weekly salary. 2. For hourly employees, no advance can be made for sum greater than 20 hours pay (20 hours times the employee’s hourly wage rate. ). 3. There is a $3. 00 processing fee, per transaction, per week to cover the administrative time and effort involved in this process. 4. All advances granted must be paid back to the Company by the end of the last business paycheck of the year. 5. Employees are eligible for a pay advance only once within each calendar ear. 6. ONLY the Vice President, the Contro ller, or the President may grant exceptions. Proper Way to Live by Confucianism and Taoism Essay

Confucianism and Taoism are ideologies that originated from China. These two ideologies have become popular even though different in their various approaches. The analysis of this paper will include introduction of the main ideologies of Confucianism and Taoism, and it is also providing a comparison between the two ideologies. Confucianism It is a word used for the ideologies of Confucius, a scholar that existed at the time of warring states. The keyword of Confucianism generally is the concept of humanism (Ritzer 37). Among the five virtues of Confucianism are Humanism, Righteousness, Principle, Knowledge, and Integrity. Taoism He was a scholar who like the others lived in the period of the warring states, and had a different approach in his ideologies. Tao is the main concept of Taoism, meaning â€Å"way.† It is described as a spontaneous, natural, external way of things, as well as the way they pursue their course (Ritzer38). The argument of many philosophies is that in case people are going to let everything in life to flow in their own way, then everything would definitely work out, like in the starts of his argument in this case it affirms the word â€Å"refrain.† While Confucianism has emphasized more on humans and their capabilities, Taoism has emphasized nature and equality. According to Confucius when an individual has faults, he should not have fear in abandoning them. Confucianism recognizes the need to be strong by shunning away any set back from other people who do not recognize the ability that you possess as portrayed by the statement â€Å"Do not grieve when people fail to recognize your ability, Grieve for your lack of ability† (Ritzer 38). The philosophy talked about not listening or be bothered with what other people think about your ability but always rise-up to the occasion and not grieve. These concepts are what Confucius was using in bringing order and peace to society and he was considered successful in doing so. Based on the facts that his argument on life emphasizes more on the importance of human relations, it is still influential. Confucius has emphasized humbleness, the philosophy describes what a noble mind aspires to â€Å"slow to speak and quick to act,† in the same way the ancient people spoke little. This is similar to Lao Tzu view about life describing life to be with little quarrels in order to avoid quarrelling with other people. Moreover, Confucius view about life is all about loyalty, ready to change whenever wrong, always standing by your words, as well as choosing only the kindred as your friends. Taoism has emphasized humbleness and gratefulness throughout life, â€Å"†¦have little and gain; Have much and be confused.† Taoism also has considered humbleness in life in another perspective affirming need for a person to stand by his own words as a way of being humble. The philosopher describes wise men as setting example to all and in order for that to happen a wise man must always stand by his own word, a character that can be desired and be emulated. Taoism view about life has been considered as perhaps too mystical. It can be criticized to be just an ideology that is trying to escape reality. Moreover, as much as Taoism could give a skeptical view, it failed to provide a realistic solution about life. However, Confucius as a philosophy is more welcomed because it has a deeper sense of life with realistic solution, especially regarding the opinion that other people have about some other people. According to Confucius, people should not just be comfortable with the way they have been described and given title, whether positive or negative. When they talk good about other people, do not just take the complement and remain comfortable, investigate and find out the reason behind being good to them. This is always more serious when they hate you. Since there are many reasons behind somebody holding an opinion about another person, it is indeed important to investigate more why other people have decided to have that opinion, this is because there may be genuine reason behind doing so or may just be a misunderstanding of what was wrongly perceived. According to Confucius just like Taoism in some aspects every individual is required to act with virtue in every social matters, family, community, state, and kingdom, mainly to ensure order and unity. Though these two philosophies may have taken different philosophies, they have in one way or the other succeeded in shaping of the society in terms of their way of life and their approach to life. Realistic or not realistic their ideologies stand to stay and the perceiving mind is what should embrace and accept the reality. Conclusion Following the rise of individualism and freedom, the modern society always forgets their manners and patience. Most of the people tend to be selfish, rude, and having over high esteem about themselves. Just as emphasized by Confucius in his time, people should learn to be calm and respectful in life. Articles of Confederations Fails Essay In order for a country to work to its fullest potential, it needs a great government. This government needs to do three important tasks. It needs to set up laws, enforce the laws, and provide many different services. Also, it needs to make sure it brings everyone together. Finally, if the government has a problem it should be able to be fixed easily. When the 13 colonies had the Articles of Confederation it couldn’t do many of the things it was supposed to do, thus it failed as a government. First, the Articles couldn’t fulfill the purposes of government like it was supposed to. They were supposed to set up many laws to keep the states and the country as a whole in order. They couldn’t do that; so instead the states made up their own rules and followed them. That also caused the states to become more independent. Also, since there were no laws, that means that the government couldn’t enforce any laws. Although, it could provide some services, but that was the only purpose the government could fulfill. Who wants a government that can’t do what it was meant to do? The Articles didn’t fulfill the purposes of government and that is why it failed as a government. Next, a strong a government can bring it’s entire nation together, unlike the Articles of Confederation. Nobody in the states really liked or agreed with the Articles. The 13 different states started making up their own rules and just followed them. This caused separation between the states, which was not good in the least bit. In order to have a good country, it is much better if the government can unite everyone. The Articles of Confederations couldn’t bring it’s nation together, so it failed as a government. Finally, the Articles couldn’t been fixed easily. It took all the 13 states to agree on something to be fixed within the Articles. If one state didn’t want a change it didn’t happen. That means that it would be very hard to fix anything with the government. The Articles could not fix itself for fulfilling the purposes of government or uniting the country. For a country starting out with its first government, they should’ve have known there were probably going to be problems. Usually, the first time you try something it doesn’t work out perfectly. With that, they should have made a way to easily fix the Articles, but they could not. With this huge problem, the United States definitely needed a change of government. The Articles of Confederation could not easily be fixed, a final reason to why it failed as a government. We had the Articles, for many reasons. They could not fulfill the purposes of government under it. Also, we couldn’t bring all the 13 states together as a nation, protect the people of the country, or fix the problems of government with ease. The states needed all of those items to become a great country. Instead, it caused many problems for the people of the states. In conclusion, the Articles of Confederation were overturned for the greater good.

Perception and Reality Essay ?Introduction This paper will attempt to argue against the common misconceptions about reality and perception. It will try to explain that perception and reality are interconnected, and that our five human senses are not the sole basis of reality, they are just instrumental to am additional process of perception that will bring the truth in our lives. This paper will briefly discuss the historical progression of human apprehension of the world he exists in. From Plato to Quantum Physics, the paper will clearly show how our perception can change the way we view the world. Admittedly this topic is broad and the paper could not possibly cover all its aspects. The paper will only focus wherein it will show that the creation of our reality is significantly based on our perception, there are important aspects that were left out like the nature of consciousness and its role on perception. Although this will enhance the understanding of perception and reality, it is no longer a necessity for this concept to be elaborated further. Some citations and explanations are self evident; other examples are very technical, if the reader would like to have a further understanding of the cited examples, a different reference might be needed. I. What is Reality? â€Å"What is real? How do you define real? If youre talking about what you can hear, what you can smell, taste and fee, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. † -Morpheus, The Matrix Reality in its simplest explanation is â€Å"everything that exists. † It covers everything from atoms to the stars in a faraway galaxy and everything in between, including the everyday objects we encounter. Non-material objects like thoughts and ideas, love, purpose, meaning can also be ascribed some semblance of reality to them. However, all these and everything that exists can be said to only exist because we perceived them. So if everything that exists are only objects of our perception, what is real then? More than 2000 years ago, some guy named Zeno presented a riddle that up to now baffled scientists and thinkers alike. It was called the â€Å"The Arrow Paradox. † Zeno argued that the flight of an arrow is an example of motion. He stated that in any given moment of time, the arrow is either where it is, or where it is not, if the arrow is where it is, then it is not moving, if it is where it is not, then it cannot possibly be there, the arrow can only be where it is; thus, it cannot move and is always at rest, although in different locations in space. To understand this better consider the light bulbs we usually see as Christmas decors, there is a perception that lights are running from one direction to the other, but in reality, the lights just blink on and off in a sequential pattern so as to create the illusion that it is moving. Here we have a paradox, on one hand; no one can repute what Zeno had claimed. That the arrow never moves. Logically speaking, no one has ever succeeded in disproving what he said. In other words, he was so correct in his analysis that no one can dispute them. On the other hand, our common sense will undeniably tell us that the arrow is moving, thus the paradox. This paper was not meant to present a resolution to Zeno’s riddle, (although there is a perfectly logical explanation based on our latest scientific knowledge, this paper will no longer tackle it. ) the paradox was only cited to illustrate the dilemma of human perception, that the reality based on our perception is not absolute and varies as our perspective changes. Reality will always be dependent on what we perceive and how we perceive it. II. The Nature of Perception The most common model of perception is that what we see, hear, smell, touch and feel is what is real. These are input data sensors that go straight to our brain. The brain then interprets the vibratory information to construct images that evoke ideas and emotions to name a few. These images in turn are further conceptualized by assigning meanings to these mental constructs, completing the whole process of perception. Without interpretation there is no perception, we commonly think that two different people looking at the same object would see the same thing. But it is possible that the interpretation of the brain will tell us that the two persons may not be seeing the same thing. A good example would be the case of a glass half filled with water, two persons may see the same sensory input that tells them that there is a glass and there is water in it, but if you ask them what they see, one may tell that the glass is half-full and the other may tell that the glass is half-empty. Why is this so? The sensory inputs of our perception, when it goes to the brain, are filtered by the mind. So, the way those signals or inputs are constructed inside the brain are affected by various factors. The factors that affect our perception maybe our environment, culture, upbringing, experiences, beliefs, etc. there may not be a conflict to see a single object with nothing in the background, they would surely see the same thing. But imagine seeing everything and the relata of all objects all around us all at once. It is easy to imagine now how challenging to the brain the process of perception is. However, though our naked perception is only limited, by the help of our instruments we are able to perceive a world that is totally different from what we commonly see, by the use of these devices, we were able to magnify the scale and scope of our perception. This enables us to see and imagine the worlds on both end of the spectra of the infinitely large and the infinitely small. With this capability, we were able to hold varying world views throughout our history. These world views are how we see ourselves and the world around us. It seems that for humans, bare perception and its interpretation are inseparable. Because of this, the nature of perception has an intrinsic illusory aspect, we believe that the things we see are actually what they are, although we can hold this to be relatively true, most of the time, it is not always the case. There have been some serious studies to show that the universe is nothing more than a holographic representation of the brain ( a hologram is a 3d image projected into space by the aid of lasers. ). This theory will sure shake the very foundation of our sense of reality, and if true, then the illusory nature of perception is very possible. Why? Because what we see to be real is totally different from what a holographic universe will suggest. In other words, we should always be prepared to at least accept a new world view based on the implications of the latest scientific knowledge. III. The Role of Perception in Reality The Allegory of Plato’s Cave Plato imagined humans living in an underground cave, with an opening where light enters as big as the cave a long way at the top. They’ve been there since birth, their bodies held in place by metal shackles. Their eyes are only limited to see what is in front of them because their bonds restrict them from turning their heads around. There is a fire burning behind them on higher ground. These men cannot see the fire or the objects behind them, only their shadows. The shadows are their only idea of reality. Plato suggested in his allegory that the world our senses show us is not necessarily what it seems to be, our perception can fool us into believing what is actual. A long time ago, the world was believed to be flat, by common sense, that’s what our eyes would tell us, and then later on, when men circumnavigated the world, they imagined and started to believe that the world was round, there was a change in perception, and later on, when our astronauts saw the world in outer space and satellites took pictures of the globe, they confirmed that what was previously believe that the world is flat was false. As another example, our senses will tell us that the earth is still, but actually, it spins at a specific velocity around its axis. Reality as a paradigm of our Perception To further understand the evolution of our beliefs and perception, let us discuss the various world views and beliefs human beings had throughout its history. In the Newtonian era, more than 200 years ago, the prevailing world view was that everything was mechanical and deterministic, that the world is governed and follow very specific physical laws and the that universe was made out of solid spherical objects with independent existence that interact with one another. Now this paradigm was radically altered by the discovery of Einstein’s theory of Relativity. The era of relativity told us that these objects had no independent existence of its own, that the existence of one object is dependent on the existence of another. This idea becomes clear when we try to define something. For example, what is energy? We define energy as the product of mass and motion, if you will notice, energy can only be defined by relating it to mass and motion, and the same goes with mass and motion, nothing can be defined and understood without referring to each other. By the late 20th century, when scientist began to understand quantum mechanics, a more radical world view has been realized. It was so radical because it states that objects have no cause. The subatomic particles, which are the building blocks of everything we can see, come out of nowhere randomly and spontaneously. It is so weird that people have not fully understood the implication of this new scientific discovery. Einstein who understood the implication of quantum mechanics made a comment that if quantum theory is correct, there is no objective reality at all. Today quantum theory is the most successful theory man ever conceived. And for sure for better or for worse, our perception of reality will never be the same again. The most common interpretation in the implication of quantum mechanics for example is that perception and objects are inseparable from one another. This idea further proves that perception plays a major role in our reality. IV. Perception becomes reality Perception is reality. By now, It is clear that there are levels of perception brought about by different points of views. The levels of this perception therefore have corresponding levels of reality. Using the example of a flat earth perception, imagine that you went back in time to the medieval ages and told a peasant that earth is not flat but round, what would you think he would say? He would probably gather his neighbours and a laughed at you and dismissed you as a loony. There is no way you could possibly convince these people unless you take them to a space ship and show them the world from outer space. It was so obvious to them that the world that they feel and see is flat. Another example on how we perceive objects, science will tell us that objects are composed of subatomic particles but when broken down further it was revealed that 99. 99% of it consisted of empty space, yet we perceive objects as something as a solid figure with form and colour. We are not denying that there is validity and truth to what we perceive. These examples were only to demonstrate that reality actually changes when there is a shift of a higher level of perception. In other words, there are many points of view that create our reality. It is not the case that all we can see is all that there is. It is the most common mistake to consider that the limit of our perception is the limit of all that can be perceived. The human mind and its ability to perceive is very limited and it can only comprehend a tiny fraction of what is really out there. The false sense of confidence and the high regard we uphold our beliefs actually obscures us to perceive reality as clear as it can be. An open mind, especially on the area of beliefs on our world, shaped about by our limited perception, can be very useful in shattering even the most persistent illusions we hold about the world and ourselves. There is a serious and profound consequence to our perceptions being influenced by our reality and of held reality influenced and altered by our new way of perceiving things. To understand the dynamic relationship between the two is great advantage. V. Conclusion Phenomenal reality is personal truths brought about by one’s beliefs and ideas about the world. Each one of us tends to think we see things as they actually are. that we are objective, but this is not the case. We see the world not as it is, but as we are – or how we are conditioned to see it. Our behaviors, attitudes, mindsets and relationship towards the world and other people are profoundly affected by how we perceive things. A case of a believer of a particular religion who held a particular belief system that there is only one god and it’s his god is the true one god, then tends to treat others’ beliefs as false. These attitudes rather convinced the believer that those people are ignorant and are being deceived by their own religion. Worse, he is also very inclined to consider these poor people as something inferior. Now, imagine that human beings can believe that there is only one God, manifested in many ways, and in various belief systems. Imagine the implications of this new way of perceiving things, instead of focusing on endless arguments brought about by their differences, they can acknowledge and tolerate each other’s beliefs. The energy and resources that is used once to affirm, protect and propagate their faiths are now available to to spend in truly worthwhile activities that will truly uplift the human conditions. Imagine the peace and harmony brought about by focusing on shared similarities rather that difference. There is a great potential for this new world view. Our latest knowledge in science, our knowledge in philosophy and religion are already here to tell us that we are one, all that is needed is a â€Å"shift† of perception and we can create a world where everyone can truly live in prosperity. Whether collectively or in a personal level, we are responsible for our lives, we create our reality based on our perception. What is important is what we are conscious about. It is my contention that raising or even changing one’s level of perception gives him the ability to create a life with quality. Vesico Vaginal Fistula In Birnin Health And Social Care Essay Approximately, about 7 million women were affected from complication of pregnancy and child birth worldwide. Out of the estimates, 6.5million women are from the developing countries. (WHO Global burden of disease 1998). According to the data from West African Journal of Medicine (WAJM 2004; 23 1) the prevalence of obstetric fistula in West Africa is around 1-3 per 1000 deliveries while, in other African region is 5-10 per 1000 deliveries. Report shows that, maternal morbidity and mortality is among the major problem for women in Nigeria. Maternal mortality ratio of 800 deaths per 100,000 live births which is also rated among the highest in the world. The report further stated that for each death that occurred 20 or more women will be affected by childbirth injuries and most of this is obstetric fistula (UNFPA/Nigeria 2005). Obstetric fistula is one of the maternal morbidities and mortality problem in Nigeria which is an issue of concern to Public Health (WAJM 2010; 29 (5); 293-298. The situation is being more evidence in the Northern part of the country, prevalence estimation ranges from as low as 400,000 to as much as 800,000 cases, 5% of these cases are from the Northern region. There could probably be an incidence of 20,000 new cases a year, with approximately 2,000-4,000 fistula repair surgeries being carried out yearly. Also Nigeria count for 40% of the worldwide fistula prevalence (Country assessment UNFPA/Nigeria 2009). Life expectancy of female population at birth is 52 yrs, with a total of 5.5 fertility rate (Unicef 2010). 1 Statistic report from (UNFPA /Nigeria 2005) stated that, majority of fistula patient visited the Health centers are below 20 years. Nigeria is facing a great challenges of Health care providers, with an estimated of 58-39% trained skilled attendance for Ante-Natal and delivery (Midwives) attached to the Health facilities (NDHS 2008). Efforts by the Government to provide them remain unsuccessful. In Nigeria, early marriages contribute 23% of the maternal death that are cause by severe hemorrhage, obstructed and prolong labor which may result to obstetric fistula and often time still birth. 69% of women in the rural areas face difficulties in accessing medical care that made them to have home deliveries by unskilled birth attendant. (Lindros and Lowkkainen 2004). Kebbi State with an estimated population of 3.8million out of it 836,000 are women of child bearing age is located in the North West part of Nigeria. It has a particularly low socio -economic indicators. Maternal mortality rates for the region are estimated at 1,000/100,000 live births (NDHS 2008) Total fertility rate is 8 which are above the national average. According to Leadership News paper 19 April 2012, stated that, kebbi state rank among the highest rate of maternal death in the country. Most of the direct causes of maternal death are hemorrhage, sepsis, eclamsia and anemia. While long and obstructed labor has been responsible for both maternal morbidity and mortality such as vesico-vaginal fistula. According to a survey, the state faces serious maternal challenges. Age at marriage in the state is 12-13 years and most of them became pregnant by 13-14 years. VVF victims can be found in all part of the state with prevalence rate of 5,000-8,000, Birnin Kebbi Local Government has the highest rate of 2,500 cases. (Khalid Zango 1996). Factors accounts for high morbidity in women in the state include social, cultural, economic accessibility and health facility associated problems. 2 Obstetric fistula is can be treated but, poverty, ignorance and lack of information are the most contributing factor for women to seek for medical attention. These high prevalence shows negligence for the government to address the situation. This study actually is going to look in to the Knowledge about the vesico vaginal fistula and the attitude towards it. The study will also be conducted among women with and without vesico vaginal fistula. The result will provide information as to knowledge level regarding vesico vaginal fistula and as to how the women without fistula look at vesico vaginal fistula as a disease and their attitude towards fistula women. 1.2. Research questions study 1.2.1 What is the prevalence of self reported cases of Vesico Vaginal Fistula among married women? 1.2.2. What are the knowledge, attitude and knowledge of preventive measures of women towards vesico vaginal fistula in Birnin -Kebbi LGA of Kebbi- State, Nigeria? 1.3. Research Hypothesis Knowledge, attitude and preventive measures of women towards vesico vaginal fistula living in Birnin Kebbi Local Government of Kebbi State, Nigeria. 3 1.4. Objectives 1.4.1. History of vesico vaginal fistula Vesico vagianal fistula or obstetric fistula has been identified to be a major issue or women of child bearing age since decades. In 1935 professor Derry from Cairo stated that, the remains of Queen Henhenit (2050 BC) were the oldest to discover fistula. Around 1845 james marion sims was the first surgeon to successfully repair VVF from a 3 female slaves in Montgonery Albana. Later, in 1852 he established a VVF repair centre where many patients from America and Europe came for surgery (Robert F. Zacharin 2008). A discovery during 1550 BC in the ancient Egypt, Aveicenna was a famous Arabian physician to differentiate VVF and obstetric (Derry DE 1935; 42:490). Another innovation came up in 1836 from Peter Mettnauer from Virginia who was identified to be the first surgeon to close fistula in United State (Aust N.Z.J. surg (2000) 70, 851-854.) Study indicates that, during the 19th Century, women with fistula in United State and Europe were caused by dystocia (Russell). In the early 20th century, more experiments and techniques came up to improve the quality of VVF repair. Again, in 1942 Latzko published a new procedure in repairing post -hysterctomy of VVF which recorded 95-100% success (VVF MedScape). Many historical innovations and advanced technique by surgeons has been recorded while, more researches and experiment are still ongoing for the improvement and better solution towards VVF. 7 2.2. Global Situation of Vesico Vaginal Fistula Vesico Vaginal fistula (VVF) which is also called obstetric fistula is an abnormal opening between the urinary bladder and the vagina or between the vagina and the rectum (RVF).This is caused as a result of prolong labor where the child presses against the normal way thereby developing the hole between the vagina and the urinary bladder (WHO def). Globally, 529,000 women were estimated to have died every year due to pregnancy and childbirth related complication. Almost 90 percent of this death is from Africa and Asia. Generally, 5 percent of this death is expected to have experience from obstructed labor (UNFPA/Nigeria 2005). According to M.J Metro report in 2006 indicated as VVF is not new disease it has been in existence for decades. He further highlighted that, in the third world countries mostly in the west 90% of VVF cases are caused by bladder trauma during hysterectomy surgery. Nowadays, advanced technologies from developed countries such as Europe and part of North America have eliminated the disease (VVF) in there region (M.J.Metro 2006). In the same report of metro 2006, he stated that, VVF is an uncomfortable disease the victims should be more serious towards their personal hygiene. In a WHO report of 2006 indicates that, about 2 million women living with untreated VVF, while 50,000 to 100,000 new cases are reported every year (WHO 2006).The increase on figures could be due to stigma that associated with the situation. Also in another report from WHO study on global burden of disease, stated that, if 2% of the obstructed labor are caused by VVF, then 130,000 women are going to be affected with the condition (WHO 1998 243-66). A study report published from UK indicated that, out of 166 cases treated within 18 year, only 21 cases are caused by obstetric complications. Another report from Nigeria stated that, out of 377 cases of VVF 369 cases are caused by childbirth (Lawson J. 1998, 83; 454-456). 8 2.3. Situation of vesico vaginal fistula in Nigeria The millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targeted at reducing the proportion of women dying in childbirth by three quarter by 2015 become unrealistic in Nigeria. (Adeyemi Ezekiel). The reason behind it is that, the country has made less progress in reducing maternal and mortality than any other sub-Saharan African countries. The maternal mortality rate in Nigeria estimated as 800nto 1,500 per 100,000 live birth (WHO 2006). The Northern part of the country has generally worse indicators with an estimated maternal mortality rate of 1,500/100,000 live birth. The high maternal mortality rate affects the basic health services in the country (NDHS 2003). According to UNFPA report, Nigeria approximately to have an estimate of 400,000 and 800,000 women affected with VVF condition while, 20,000 new cases are recorded every year. Most of these patients are from the northern part that lives in the rural areas where they find it difficulties in accessing proper medical care. (UNFPA/Fistula Nigeria 2005). Also statistics shows that, most of the VVF victims are below 20years. The underlying cause of VVF in Nigeria is due to prolong obstructed labor and mostly the young ages are at risk due to early marriage and early childbirth where there body is still in the stage of developing (WHO2006). In 2002, a multi-sectorial committee was setup by the Federal Ministry of Health to find the solution to the problem. At the same time the committee identifies Engender Health along with UNFPA/Nigeria to conduct a nationwide needs assessment in order to develop a framework and action plan for the elimination of fistula in Nigeria. Although Nigeria has been taking measure to address reproductive health and maternal health problems, the implemented interventions have not reach optimum coverage to obtain the desired impact. (NDHS 2008). 9 2.4 TYPES OF FISTULA Many surgeons have described fistula according to their experience during repair. In 1852 Sims also classified fistula by its location in the vagina. According to (Cater, Palumbo et al. 1952) stated that, it is difficult to describe the reported cases of fistula but, the standard method is to identify it during the actual operation and the result. Mayor clinic doctor has briefly classified six types of vaginal fistula Vesico vaginal fistula- is abnormal opening between the vagina and urinary bladder Ureterovaginal fistula- is abnormal opening that connect the vagina and the ducts which carry the urine from the kidney to the bladder. Urethrovaginal fistula- is an opening between the vagina and the tube that carries the urine out. Rectovaginal fistula- an opening between the vagin and the opening anus. Colovaginal fistula- the opening between the vagina and the large intestine. Enterovaginal fistula- an opening between the small intestine and the vagina. 10 2.5. CAUSES OF VVF Many publications and journals have their different versions on the causes of vesico vaginal fistula. According to medicine for African journal classified the factors that contributed to the cause of vesico vaginal fistula as: (MfA- VVF) Primary factor Childbirth: 8% of the VVF cases are prolong and obstructed labor where the deliveries are conducted by untrained skilled birth attendant or as a result of malpresentation of baby in the uterus which cause a lot of damage to the womans urinary tract. Hysterectomy or other gynecological problem:- This can be caused by accidental surgery that occur within the pelvic and may result to VVF. Gishiri cut or Salt cut:- It is a traditional way of treatment by a traditional healers mostly practice in Nigeria and some part of west Africa. When a woman present Gishiri disease symptoms such as vulva itching, absence of menstruation, infertility or obstructed labor. As a result of these symptoms a local surgical cut in the anterior vagina wall of a woman was done for total cure. During removal of clitoris in a process of female Genital mutilation or female circumcision the vaginal tissues and its surrounding will be scrapped thereby causes VVF. Secondary factor Sexual transmission disease or previous pelvic inflammatory disease. Bladder stone or retain foreign body within the vagina Diabetics 2.5.3. Socio-cultural causes The most underlying socio-cultural causes in Nigeria are: Early marriage; harmful traditional birth practices; poverty and illiteracy. 11 2.5.4. Early marriage Early marriage can be define as being marriage at the age of 15-24 years when the reproductive organs are not fully matured for taking responsibility as done by the adult. This will result t damage of the birth canal that will lead to vaginal fistula (John Zang). According to WHO/UNICEF, the recommended age of marriage is 25 to 26 years. In article 16, of the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, specified the right to protect child marriage. I n a publication from unicef research centre on early marriage 2001 stated the guidelines on changing attitudes of families and societies towards child marriage. According to global assessment of child marriage it is estimated that, South Asia and Africa has the highest number of young women/young girls who are given out into marriage at the age of 15-24years. These will affect their nutritional status which will lead to so many pregnancy- related complications and most of the time she has no say in making decision for herself. Also in another report from WHO 2006 indicate that: more than 25% of women with fistula from Ethiopia and Nigeria are pregnant before the age of 15years while over 80% of them also become pregnant at 18years of age. 2.6. SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES OF VVF Almost all the report from the medical professional indicates the psychological consequences of women with VVF that bears. This is attributed due to lacj of support from the families and societies as a whole. Majority of these women faces great challenges in the society because of the odour from the incontinence of urine. 12 According to WHO report indicate that, women with VVF are facing difficulties to manage the urinary incontinence that causes odour from urine. The report also highlighted that, due to injury to the vaginal wall many complications may arise even after obstetric repair of the VVF. These complications are narrowing of the vagina, secondary amenorrhea inability to carry the child. However, (Murphy 1981 and Harrison 1983) stated that, the most traumatic aspect of VVF resulting to urinary incontinence and lost of child who sometime may lead to marital separation/divorce and also social excommunication. In another report from (WHO 2006), VVF patients are to be sympathized due to the lower social status of women in Nigeria. The most disheartening is that, they are abandoning by their husband and they have limited role within the family. 2.7. Treatment Women with fistula face a lot of challenges which most of the time find difficult to disclose their situation. The only solution for their survivor is surgery and personal hygiene. A statement from WHO Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood program indicate that, the endemic VVF area should focus prevention aspect through effective social changes that will improve the status of women. 13 CHAPTER 111 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 3.1. Research Design Cross- sectional survey study among the married women of reproductive age in Birnin Kebbi LGA in Kebbi State, Nigeria. Focus group approach to assess the knowledge and attitude towards vesico vaginal fistula among people who live in Birnin Kebbi LGA, in Kebbi State, Nigeria. 3.2 Study Area Birnin- Kebbi LGA which lies in the centre of Kebbi State of Nigeria. A total of 45 wards :- Nasarawa 1, Nasarawa 11, Dangaldima, Marafa, Gwadangwaji, Zauro, Ambursa, Gulumbe, Ujario, Kardi, Gawasu, ,Makera, Kola, Tarasa, Fadama, 3.3. Study Population The study will be among the married women of reproductive age 15-49yrs of age. 3.4. Sample Technique Selection of Sample sites: Systematic Randomly sampling will be done for the collection of data in 45 settlements from 15 wards 3.4.1 Exclusion criteria are The sample who are not Birnin Kebbi cases The samples have never followed up doctor or refilled medical attention during 3 months prior to study The sample who are unable to communicate verbally and orally to interviewer appropriately 14 3.5. Sample size Yamane sample size Formula n=z2p (1-p) (e) 2 n= (1.96)2 X 0.22 (1-0.22) = 264 (0.05)2 Where , n = sample size p = proportion of women of reproductive age in B/Kebbi LGA that are expected to have knowledge about vesico viginal fistula. e = Marginal error or accepted error z = Standard value of 95% confidence interval of 1.96 Sample size is 264 + 10% to add up in case of any missing value/data, the total sample size will be 264 + 26.4 (10%)= 290 3.6. Measuring Tools Survey questionnaires are to be admitted on knowledge and attitude of married women towards vesico vaginal fistula. Face to Face interview will be carried out during the focus group discussion 3.7. Validity and Reliability test Validity test 3 Expert validity are to be selected from B/K LGA. Questionnaire will be checked and reviewed by these 3 experts. 15 Reliability test Questionnaire will be pr-tested by the respondents who are comparable to the targeted respondents. The reliability of questionnaire will be statistically tested with the Crobachs Alpha, which its acceptable coefficient is more than 0.74 3.8. Data Collection Constructed questionnaires to be used on the followings: Questionnaires General and household information, Knowledge towards the sign and symptom of Vesico Vaginal Fistula. Attitude towards the Preventive Measures on the vesico vaginal fistula Access to the health facility- information and service. Focus group discussion women with and without VVF 3.9. Data Analysis (Statistics) Questionnaire will be coded before entering into the computer. SPSS version 17 will be used Descriptive statistic is to be used to analyze data which will describe the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation 3.10. Argumentative Essay: Gun Control Violates The Second Amendment of the Constitution :: Second Amendment The Right To Bear Arms

The U.S. should not have gun control laws. The Second Amendment to the Constitution states that, â€Å"A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.† This amendment has been around since 1791, and there has been gun control almost as long as it's been around. The National Rifle Association is an advocate of the Second Amendment and an opponent of those who propose restrictions on guns. Even Presidents Reagan and Bush are members, and Nixon, Eisenhower, and Kennedy were also members. Why do people feel the need to own a handgun? One reason is heritage. For as long as this country has been around, there have been gun owners, to defend themselves and to hunt for food. Buying, owning, or carrying a handgun doesn't hurt anyone. Until a person commits a crime, he/she is free to choose what he/she wants to do. Even if guns were completely banned from the U.S.A., people would still find a way to get them. Criminals would get guns. They would have their way, and there would be nothing we could do about it. We would have no way to defend ourselves. What is gun control to you? To me, it is the unconstitutional regulation and banning of guns to try to keep the crime rates in this country down. Does it work? Some gun laws are okay and they may work to some extent, but not to the extent that was intended. As for most of these gun laws such as the Brady Law, it serves no purpose. It is only there to make our lawmaking bodies and those of us who are too naive to see the truth feel better. Do you really think that the Brady Law keeps handguns out of the hands of criminals?

Views on War in Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five    Many people returned from World War II with disturbing images forever stuck in their heads. Others returned and went crazy due to the many hardships and terrors faced. The protagonist in Slaughter-House Five, Billy Pilgrim, has to deal with some of these things along with many other complications in his life. Slaughter House Five (1968), by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., is an anti-war novel about a man’s life before, after and during the time he spent fighting in World War II. While Billy is trying to escape from behind enemy lines, he is captured and imprisoned in a German slaughterhouse. The author tells of Billy’s terrible experiences there. After the war, Billy marries and goes to school to become an optometrist. During his schooling, he is put in a mental institution. As it is later explained in the novel, Billy was abducted by aliens and lived on their planet in their zoo for a period of time. Throughout this novel, Billy’s life doesn’t occur in a series of ev ents. He also doesn’t have flashbacks of certain points in his life. Instead, he lives his life through time travel. His life jumps from many points in time including his experiences in the war, before the war, after the war and also on the planet of Tralfamadore. Throughout this novel, Billy Pilgrim’s and other humans’ views on war are simple: in essence, it’s one of the most destructive things that there is, but to the aliens on the planet of Tralfamadore, war is unimportant in the long run and should not be dwelled on.    By opening the cover of this novel, one might notice the subtitle. Underneath the title, Slaughter-House Five, reads the subtitle: The Children’s Crusade A Duty-Dance with Death. Without even reading the ... ...his novel believe war to be the most disgusting and most distructful thing in the universe, the Tralfamadorians enlighten one human on their thoughts of war. They don’t feel Billy should put as much time as he does into dwelling on something like war that is inevitable. They ignore it and rate it relatively low on a scale of importance. From World War II, Billy is left with many vivid memories that he would rather not have. He has first handedly seen what he thinks is the most evil thing in the universe. He is frequently haunted by images of his experiences. But maybe if he would just tell himself that there is nothing he can do about war, maybe if he just looked the other way and ignored it, maybe then he would be happy and in a state of peace like the Tralfamadorians.
